Remedy for correction of disorders in alcoholism, toxic and drug addiction.
Indications for use
• Nicotine addiction
• Tobacco use
• Dyspnea due to impaired lung function
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacological action - cholinomimetic. Excites n-holinoreсeptors vegetative (sympathetic and parasympathetic) ganglia, adrenal medulla and sinocarotid zone. Interacting with n-holinoreceptors of carotid glomeruli causes a short-term reflex stimulation of the respiratory center of the medulla oblongata. Excitation of n-cholinergic structures of chromaffin adrenal tissue is accompanied by an increase in epinephrine release, which, in combination with stimulation of sympathetic ganglia, leads to an increase in blood pressure. The hypertensive effect can be used in the suppression of blood circulation and other hypotensive states.
Previously, cytisine was used against poisoning with morphine, barbiturates, carbon monoxide, etc., now due to the appearance of specific antagonists of opiates and barbiturates, the use is very limited. In addition, cytisine was used to assess blood flow velocity on the basis of the time from the moment of insertion into the ulnar vein (0.7-1 ml) to the first deep inspiration.
When reflex stopping of breathing (including operations, injuries), respiratory depression and circulation in patients with infectious diseases, 0.15% cytisine solution was used (intravenous, intramuscular).
Competes with nicotine for n-holinoreceptors, reduces nicotine dependence, changes the sensation from smoking to unpleasant, reduces the craving for smoking. It alleviates manifestations of abstinence syndrome with smoking cessation. The mechanism of action and effects of cytisine are close to the pharmacodynamics of nicotine, which makes it possible to gradually abandon smoking without developing abstinent phenomena.
